2022-2023 End-of-School Year Special Newsletter

Dear Harrington Elementary School Families,

As we approach the end of the 2022-2023 academic year, we want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we have shared together as the Harrington Elementary School PTA. It has been a year filled with joy, community spirit, and countless memorable moments.

We began the year with a resounding success at the Harrington Hurrah, where students, families, and staff came together to celebrate the start of a new school year. The Harrington Fun Run brought out the athlete in all of us, as we ran, walked, and cheered on our children, promoting health and wellness.

Our International Cultural Day and Potluck showcased the rich diversity of our school community, allowing us to appreciate and learn from various cultures around the world. It was a true celebration of unity and inclusivity. The Big Map Night ignited curiosity and a love for geography as students explored different countries and continents through interactive activities.

Throughout the year, our Spirit Wear campaigns kept our school pride soaring high, and we are grateful for your enthusiastic support. Our dedicated team of room parents worked tirelessly to ensure smooth communication and coordination within classrooms, fostering a strong home-school partnership.

We hosted engaging events such as Math Night and the Science Fair, where young minds were inspired to explore and excel in these crucial subjects. Movie Night provided a fun-filled evening for families to bond and enjoy a cinematic experience together. The Book Swap encouraged a love for reading and allowed students to discover new literary treasures.

The Kindness Rocks initiative spread positive vibes throughout our school, reminding us of the power of compassion and empathy. The Talent Show showcased the remarkable talents of our students, leaving us in awe of their creativity and confidence. And who could forget the unforgettable Harry Palooza, our beloved end-of-year celebration that brought the entire Harrington community together for an afternoon of fun and laughter.

At this moment, we would also like to express our heartfelt gratitude to PTA Co-President Karen Roses. Her dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to our school community have been truly remarkable. We will miss her dearly as she steps down from her role as co-president after this year. Karen, thank you for your tireless efforts and for making a lasting impact on our school.

As we bid farewell to the 2022-2023 school year, we want to extend our deepest appreciation to all the parents, teachers, staff, and volunteers who have contributed their time, energy, and talents to make our PTA events and initiatives a resounding success. Your support and active participation have been the driving force behind our accomplishments.

We hope that the memories created throughout this year will stay with us all as we embark on a well-deserved summer break. May this summer vacation be filled with rest, relaxation, and cherished moments with loved ones.

Thank you for being a part of the Harrington Elementary School community. We look forward to another fantastic year ahead!

Warm regards,

Meg Tabela, Wei Ding, and Karen Roses

Congratulations 5th Graders!

The 5th graders have had an incredibly busy and memorable spring to mark the end of their time at Harrington. As soon as the weather warmed in May, a group of 5th graders cleaned up the school by picking up trash and weeding the meditation garden for "Harrington Gives Back." They also planted perennials that will delight children who wander through the garden for years to come.

On May 19th, 5th graders took over the school during "One Epic Night!" Parents created a scavenger hunt that led students throughout the building in search of special memories and classrooms where they have spent the last 6 years learning and growing. Then they headed to the gym where a DJ, lights, balloons, games, and treats awaited to celebrate the night!

A very special class gift

A very special class gift was selected, purchased and assembled by a dedicated group of 5th grade parents. "A Place to Gather," a beautiful, weather-resistant table now graces the green area near the meditation garden. Students and staff will enjoy relaxing and meeting up here for many years to come!

Ice Cream Social

On Wed, June 14th, 5th graders gathered to thank their teachers during the "Ice Cream Social." While parents scooped, students got to play soccer and basketball, make friendship bracelets, and play giant frisbee. The students also presented teachers with summer-themed gifts to thank them for a wonderful year!

The "Moving On Ceremony" took place on Friday afternoon featuring 9 outstanding student speeches, sentimental choral performances led by Ms. Carpenter, a final address by our wonderful principal, and a joyful reception featuring yearbook signing, photos with family and friends, and lots of delicious treats!

The final days of school will not disappoint our soon-to-be middle schoolers. A final field trip to Hale Reservation awaits and an after-school POOL PARTY complete with pizza, treats, games, and a special gift to each 5th grader! Plus, the 5th grade graduation committee will treat all Harrington teachers to an ice cream sundae bar in gratitude for their hard work and dedication.

We want to extend a very special thank you to Ms. Daley and Dr. O'Connor for providing incredible support, leadership, and technical skills! Thank you to Ms. Minasian for fielding all our emails and communicating to the class. Thank you to the 5th grade teachers for providing the inspiration on which our children thrive! Finally, we extend a special thank you to the 5th grade parents, especially the many volunteers who worked hours to put together these wonderful events! This has been a magical and joyful time of memory-making and celebration.

Congratulations to our 5th graders and future Class of 2030 and beyond! We will miss you!

Teacher Appreciation Week

We had an amazing Teacher Appreciation week, and it is all thanks to you: our PTA volunteers! We want to send a special thank you to Ellie Michaud and Colleen Calhoun who are the Co-VP’s of Teacher Appreciation and planned the most amazing, thoughtful and creative Teacher Appreciation week we have ever seen! We can’t tell you how many teachers expressed their thanks to the PTA and our volunteers for such a special week! If Teacher Appreciation tasks are something you enjoy, please reach out to megtabela@gmail.com. We are always in need of helpers for small tasks!

Book Swap

The book swap was a huge success! Many thanks to Colette Powell for having the vision and seeing it come to fruition! Some first graders enjoying their books!

International Fair

The international fair was an enormous success!! It was so wonderful to experience so many different cultures from our community! A special thanks to Wei Ding for passionately making this event happen!!

The Great Map Night

The Great Map Night in 2022 was a great success after the pandemic. Kids and parents were very excited to participate this yearly fun and educational event. Nobody wanted to miss the opportunity to walk on the huge map in the gym and doing the scavenger hunt. And many kids hung around the crafts and activity tables and wouldn’t want to leave. Everyone took home a little bit more knowledge and fun from the night.

Harrington Fun Run

At the start of October, we continued the beginning of the school year fun with our annual Fun Run! With a record turnout on a rather windy morning, fellow Hawks and family members came together for some light exercise and lots of school spirit. We cannot forget the fun teacher races that kicked off our Fun Run morning which provided lots of excitement and some friendly competition! Stay tuned for details on our Fall 2023 Fun Run race!
